Things I have learned…
1) Just because a place offers free wi fi I do not have to get my laptop out. Sometimes you just need to look around and see the people around you, it is fun actually.
2) Just because my cell phone rings I do not have to answer it. In public especially. Rudeness is never in vogue. I love the vibrate function to, I do not have to disturb anyone.
3) Just because a book is great does not mean I have to own it. The library is always accessible and they have almost any book I would ever want.
4) Smiles are more important to me then almost anything. When my son smiles my world comes to a halt and I try to enjoy the moment. Anytime someone smiles I can not but help smiling back.
5) Listening is an aquired skill and it must be learned and relearned. I have had my best conversations with people when I just sit and listen and say little to nothing. People appreciate it as well. As a Pastor a lot of people want a piece of my mind, and I am happy to oblige…when asked. I have to remember not to go throwing it out there though.
6) People are awesome, and I love them…but some of them are just really messed up. I include myself in that list as well. I may be a pastor, but I work full time for a Christian Ministry and people are just as messed up, if not more in ministry.
7) As much as I fret about finances and how I am not doing near as well financially as I am used to, God is still in control and he is paying the bills.
Putting to much faith in others will burn you. Love and trust people to a healthy degree, but remember they are human as well and they make mistakes. You will disappoint them, and they will disappoint you from time to time.
9) Being married is God’s greatest gift to me. I can not imagine what I would be doing had I not met Amy when I did. I probably would still be working a dead end job managing a restaurant that just recently went belly up…what would I do then?
10) Courage is something we all need to have a little more of. Sometimes a lot more. Courage to face the day in a new and exiting way knowing that God has a plan for the day and that it will be fulfilled no matter what.
O.K., that is my top 10. I could keep going on and on, but you get my drift.
